Jan Spálený Trio

Jan Spálený Trio is a more intimate version of the better known ASPM (Amateur Association of Professional Musicians). The trio appeared on the Czech music scene in 1984. Pianist and singer Jan Spálený was accompanied by guitarist and accordionist Petr Kalandra and saxophonist František Havlíček. After Kalandra’s and Havlíček’s departure, Jan Spálený surrounded himself with mostly jazz players and continued to cultivate his original music.

The trio can perform in spaces where the entire ASPM band would not fit. Together with Jan Spálený performs Michal Gera and Filip Spálený . “ASPM is the best band of my life. It has grown up, is reliable and changeable, like a precious ring on the hand of a knowing, unpretentious woman. I have no reason, nor need, to change anything on the ASPM’s ground plan. However, I feel the urge to play, besides ASPM, some songs only in a trio, chamber style, to continue the folkblues beginnings of the early eighties,” adds Jan Spálený
