Basilica
Basilica of St. Peter and Paul
The Chapter Basilica of St. Peter and Paul was founded by the first Czech king, Vratislav, who established a church chapter there, thereby symbolically establishing a link with papal Rome. Over the centuries, it has undergone many reconstructions, and its current appearance, with a pair of tall towers, is the work of architect Josef Mocker. This majestic temple, which has boasted the title of Basilica Minor since 2003, is the spiritual symbol of Vyšehrad.
The basilica is owned by the Royal Collegiate Chapter of St. Peter and Paul at Vyšehrad.
WHAT YOU CAN LOOK FORWARD TO

The Crown of Vyšehrad
The neo-Gothic towers of the basilica are an integral part of the panorama of Vyšehrad and the whole of Prague, even though they were not built until the early 20th century. They rise to a height of 58 meters and, in addition to bells, also house a carillon, which plays daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Visitors can hear classical music, spiritual songs, and folk songs.

Interior decoration
The interior of the basilica is a veritable art gallery. The rich Art Nouveau paintings commemorate the beginnings of Czech statehood, linked to the Christian spiritual roots of our nation. Among the most significant monuments are the Gothic painting of the Vyšehrad Madonna, the reliquary of St. Valentine, the statue of the Virgin Mary of Šancov, and the Romanesque sarcophagus of St. Longinus, probably originating from the Přemyslid necropolis.
