Electric cars for Vyšehrad
12/01/2026Welcome Šemík and Bivoj. Vyšehrad has two new additions to its team that you definitely won't miss. They are the Šemík and Bivoj electric cars, which we acquired thanks to the European Union as part of the National Recovery Plan. We already have Šemík, and Bivoj will arrive at the end of January. These vehicles will greatly help us in our long-term efforts to maintain and improve the entire Vyšehrad to the highest possible standard. The project focuses on ensuring environmentally friendly and efficient transport services in the Vyšehrad National Cultural Monument complex, which is located in the center of Prague and is part of the urban conservation area listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The aim of the project is to purchase two electric utility vehicles that will be used to provide operational logistics, transport materials, and technical equipment within the grounds of the Vyšehrad National Cultural Monument (NKP). Project implementation period: October 1, 2025 – March 31, 2026

Myths and historyAT VYŠEHRAD

Krok and his daughters
Although we associate Vyšehrad with the oldest Czech legends, where Duke Krok and his daughters Kazi, Teta, and Libuše resided, we do not actually know where it was located. It was probably somewhere in the vicinity of Berounka, 30 km from here. Vyšehrad is mentioned in the oldest chronicles only in connection with the Girls' Wars, which broke out after the death of Princess Libuše and which, as is well known, did not end well for women.

Where Šemík jumped from
Who doesn't know the legend of Horymír and his brave horse Šemík, who saved him by jumping from the Vyšehrad rock? However, there is no mention of Šemík in the oldest chronicles. The story was first recorded by Václav Hájek of Libočany in his Czech Chronicle, and was probably inspired by the true story of the robber baron Eppelein of Gailingen.
