Museum Night

Prague Museum Night 2026

Experience an unforgettable night at Vyšehrad and discover the secrets hidden deep beneath the ramparts of its Baroque fortifications. Explore the mysterious underground – its history, legends, and fascinating stories. We will open three sections of historic 17th-century corridors, once used for the discreet movement of the Vyšehrad fortress garrison – the guardian of Prague’s cities and the main armoury of Bohemia.

WHAT CAN YOU LOOK FORWARD TO?

For a symbolic admission fee, three separate sections of the Vyšehrad casemates with a total length of nearly 750 metres will be open to you. You can walk through them at your own pace and enjoy their unique atmosphere.

Casemates to Gorlice

Casemates to Gorlice

From the Brick Gate (Cihelná Gate), you will pass through a historic corridor into the monumental Gorlice Hall – the largest underground hall in historic Prague, which was in fact created by accident during the construction of the fortress. Here, you will find six original Baroque statues from Charles Bridge on display.

Martinské Casemates

Martinské Casemates

The Martinské Casemates will captivate you with their mysterious, almost mystical atmosphere. Underground corridors illuminated by candlelight offer a unique experience and evoke the time when soldiers defended the Vyšehrad fortress against enemies.

Podolí Casemates

Podolí Casemates

Discover the former anti-aircraft shelters of the SS infirmary in Podolí. Period equipment in the command room, treatment areas, and other stations will transport you to the dramatic periods of the 20th century and present a lesser-known chapter of Vyšehrad’s history.

The Forgotten Church within the Walls

and the Blacksmith’s Workshop

During Museum Night, the former Church of the Beheading of St John the Baptist, hidden directly within the Vyšehrad fortifications, will also be open. It houses stone fragments of the Baroque decoration from the Vyšehrad Basilica.
In the sacristy, visitors will find a blacksmith’s workshop with demonstrations of coin minting, as well as a themed sales stall offering handcrafted products by the Historica Bohemica association. Since April this year, the association has been based in the Špička Gate, which will also be open during Museum Night.
