Royal Day at Vyšehrad
Celebrating the 940th Anniversary of the Coronation of the First King of Bohemia
Discover the Story of the First King of Bohemia
Step back in time to the age when Vratislaus II received the royal crown and transformed Vyšehrad into a powerful symbol of the Přemyslid dynasty. Twice during the day, a ceremonial procession of the king and his retinue will arrive at the site, offering visitors a grand welcome, displays of medieval combat skills, and an opportunity for children to take part in medieval training activities.
Throughout the day, you can explore a medieval camp and experience the atmosphere of daily life in the Middle Ages, including demonstrations of traditional crafts.
From 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., visitors will also enjoy exceptional access to the Basilica of St Peter and St Paul, the Basilica of St Lawrence, as well as the unique archaeological remains located beneath the Powder Magazine and the Romanesque Bridge. These remarkable monuments are closely connected with King Vratislaus and his ambitious transformation of Vyšehrad into a royal residence.
This event commemorates the 940th anniversary of the coronation of King Vratislaus II, the first King of Bohemia, and his wife Świętosława (Svatava of Poland), the first Queen of Bohemia. Vratislaus II was also the founder of the Vyšehrad Chapter and the Basilica of St Peter and St Paul, whose legacy remains an integral part of Vyšehrad's history.
