Vyšehrad Underground
Podolské casemates at Vyšehrad
Soak up the atmosphere of the air-raid shelters, the dramatic story of the Vyšehrad Knights, and the mysteries that this part of the underground still holds today.
The casemates under the bastion of St. Peter were built in the second half of the 17th century. However, their appearance was significantly altered during World War II, when they were converted into air-raid shelters for the SS military hospital in Podolí. In the 1950s, the shelters were decommissioned and became a place for adventurous expeditions.
The total length of the route is 600 meters, of which 430 meters are underground. Tours are conducted only with our guide in Czech and English. A digital guide with other language versions is also available.

What will you see on the tour?
Air raid shelters
Take a look at the empty spaces of the command room and infirmary, the preserved entrances and driveways for ambulances. Discover the significance of the niches that appear regularly in the corridors, as well as the concrete heads of the ventilation shafts on the walls.
Pit toilets
An economical type of toilet used in conditions without running water and sewage systems. The individual cubicles have no doors, and instead of a toilet bowl, there is a wooden box filled with sand, which absorbs moisture and neutralizes odors.
Mysterious inscriptions
The Vyšehrad riders and their followers left inscriptions in some rooms. Some are still legible, others are mysterious. There are American-sounding names, anti-communist slogans, and vulgar expressions.
