Celebrations of the Velvet Revolution

For the second year Vyšehrad was the venue for a memorial and commemorative event called Free November (Svobodný listopad). Through this event, the student organization of the same name commemorates the key events of November 17, 1939, and 1989. In front of the Burgrave's residence building, there were performances by school choirs, clubs, and initiatives. There were also speeches by representatives of academics, students from Czech universities, and political science student platforms.

The reason why the memorial ceremony commemorating November 17 was moved to Vyšehrad for the second time is the long-term reconstruction of Albertov, where Free November is usually held. It was Albertov where the original student march on November 17, 1989, began. And how is Vyšehrad connected? Vyšehrad was the place where the march was headed. Specifically, to the grave of Karel Hynek Mácha in the Vyšehrad Cemetery.

Hlavní město Praha je zřizovatel Národní kulturní památky Vyšehrad.
