We Have Restored the Gate to the Acropolis
The National Cultural Monument Vyšehrad continues its efforts to restore small historical landmarks. In June, we successfully completed the full restoration of the entrance gate to the Vyšehrad Acropolis. The team of restorers returned the gate to its original appearance, including the imperial emblem – the double-headed eagle, which can now be seen on the side facing the park. The restoration was based on historical documentation.
The gate is a remnant of the Vyšehrad armory, which was completely destroyed by fire in 1927. It remains the only surviving physical reminder of this military structure. You can learn more about the historical development of the Vyšehrad Acropolis at the exhibition "The Rise and Fall of Vyšehrad."
The gate restoration is part of a long-term project to restore small monuments at Vyšehrad, which has been ongoing since 2020. Next in line is the restoration of the central part of Karlach’s Gardens, particularly the Neo-Gothic well. You can also contribute to the restoration through the transparent account “The Treasure of Princess Libuše.”
